Description

Edvard and Gerda Lindell, two Swedish third class passenger sailing onboard the R.M.S Titanic from Southampton to New York to have their final destination in Connecticut. But neither Edvard or his wife made it there. She died in the water holding on to life boat Collapsible A while Edvard already was in it trying to help his wife. August Wennerström togeter with Gunnar Isidor Tengling was sitting in the life boat. While August Wennerström and even likely Edvard was trying to pull up Gerda the soon lost grip of her and in the comotion that came after Gerda engagement ring slipped off and end up in her husbands hand and she dissapeard down into the water. Wennerström later claimed that in 30 minutes after his wife was gone Edvard hair turned gray and he became lethargic and died that night not long after his wife died. The ring then slipped down it the bottom of the life boat and would not be find before on the 13th of May, 1912 by the crew of Oceanic.

This story grips me, it shows a true love between two people, the fact of how their death was, I can not imagine how Edvard must have felt seeing how his wife sank deep into the water. It is not suprising that he became lethargic. To watch your love die in such a way. It is just unbelivable. I think their story is a true love story. I especially was gripped with the story when I visit the Titanic exhibition in 2009 in Stockholm, I went several times on it, since it was free for all people under 19. I brought my sister there for the summer and I went with my class as we lost in the contest we had in school during that autum start so we got tickets to the Titanic exhibition which I by then had already seen like two times. I loved that exhibition and it was there that during one of my visit took an audio guide and walked around and saw the engagement ring that belonged to Gerda and hearing the story it was just so tragic and reading during this days it grips me how tragic and sad death they both had. But also how true their love was.

Today marks the 102th anniversary of the sinking and lets remember all the once that fell victime to the sinking, but also all that survived, but lived with the memory of the sinking until they died. May they all rest in peace and be safe no from all the pain that was caused on that night 102 years ago.
